Devis Grebu

The artist’s linear technique is especially interesting be- cause lines are firm in di- rection, yet delicately em- broidered at the edges. This softens the precision of the highly planned draw- ings and creates a gentling effect throughout the   whole composition. Special effects are also note- worthy in their two-dimen- sional quality (à la Persian miniatures). The back- ground colours share their intensity with foreground objects, and some pages contain sophisticated per- spective devices that pro- duce a sense of flatness or depth in unusual ways. The result is an intriguing sense of ambiguity in the graphic style, but at the same time, a very clear and consistent method and conceptualization.

Dear Devis Grebu.
The Society of Illustrators Museum of American Illustration welcomes the opportunity to exhibit some of the best in recent children's book illustration in "The Original Art". The show will compliment the Museum's schedule of contemporary and historic exhibits, and this new venue will attract a wide public and trade audience to this important annual event. We look forward to the presentation of your work at the Society of Illustrators Museum of American Illustration (November I- November 22, 1989).
