Art is a language, its vocabulary and grammar the elements of style and subject with which a painting or sculpture is built. Art is a filter through which the world is transformed by the artist; his instruments are the elements of his experience and the perceptions that shape his subjective response to the world. Art, both as a product and process, is a re-vision of reality - its purpose is to help its audience see in ways we did not see before, to make us think about things we didn't think about before; to cause us to think about what we are seeing and reflecting on what we are seeing.
